WOMBAT · Marine Systems

The intelligence layer
for the next-generation yacht.

WOMBAT is the integration and energy orchestration layer for sailing yachts — a hardware-agnostic 230V AC backbone and VEM (Vessel Energy Manager) that cuts harness copper by ~90% and installation labour by 40–60% — without altering your current hull moulds.

01 The problem

Modern yachts are outgrowing their electrical systems.

Fully electric galleys, air conditioning, bigger and more powerful electric systems, growing battery banks and electric propulsion are loading 35–70 ft yachts far beyond what legacy 12/24/48V DC architectures were designed for. The automotive industry solved this a decade ago with safer, smarter high-voltage distribution and intelligent energy management. The marine industry is at the same inflection point.

Legacy DC architecture
  • Three separate energy vectors (DC house, AC genset, propulsion) — heavy, inefficiently redundant, failure-prone
  • 12/24/48V running at 300+ amps — thermal stress & voltage drop
  • Heavy 95 mm² wiring looms — labour-intensive assembly
  • Tolerated insulation faults — no real-time monitoring
  • Monolithic design — onboard repairs are slow and costly
  • No scalable post-sale or digital service for the shipyard
  • Voltage standards patched layer upon layer, hull after hull
WOMBAT architecture
  • One 230V AC backbone — a single, low-amperage run
  • Thin 6/10 mm² wiring — 20–25× lower transmission losses
  • 20–30% lighter install — mass kept low and centred
  • Advanced IMD monitoring — micro-amp fault localisation
  • Modular Edge hubs — "change-the-part" repairability
  • Plug-and-play spares & software — an after-sales business
  • Intelligent from scratch — a 230V AC backbone living with a 12/24V DC mission-critical bus

02 Why it matters for your shipyard

Built around how you already build.

Integrates seamlessly into your current production line—no new moulds, no retooling. Three pillars built entirely around your business case.

Less risk

No obsolescence, no lock-in.

Hardware-agnostic and future-proof — no vendor lock-in. Engineered to strict marine safety standards with integrated IMD (insulation monitoring), RCD and MCB protection, giving you absolute control of your after-sales ecosystem.

Less cost

Thinner cable, fewer hours.

Less copper, fewer materials, 40–60% lower install labour — at handover, the VEM runs automated commissioning protocols across all subsystems, saving up to a full day of manual electrical testing.

More revenue

A better product — and after-sales you own.

Plug-and-play spares at higher margin, software-update fees, and a recurring service relationship — not just selling more yachts.

And an official retrofit programme for your active fleet.

Recurring revenue from hulls already on the water — a market that doesn't exist for you today.

03 The owner experience

What your owner actually feels on board.

Owners don't buy electrical architecture. They buy quiet nights, longer range, superior sailing performance, proven reliability and peace of mind — delivered under your brand.

Silence

Anchor without the generator.

WOMBAT predicts your night at anchor and has the battery full and ready — filled underway by solar and hydrogeneration. The genset runs only when it's least intrusive. One touch: choose At Anchor and relax.

Autonomy

More days off-grid.

Predictive energy management stretches reserves — more range between shore-power stops, fewer fuel runs.

Performance

Sails lighter.

A 20–30% lighter electrical installation, with CoG kept low and centred — better stability, motion and feel under sail.

Peace of mind

It always stays in your hands.

A five-level safety hierarchy featuring graceful degradation and absolute physical overrides — engineered strictly for blue-water seaworthiness. Operational simplicity is true safety.

And it all lives on one screen the skipper already uses — nothing new to learn.

04 The VEM — the brain & the moat

The intelligence that makes it work.

The WOMBAT VEM continuously orchestrates generation, storage and consumption — optimising for autonomy, silence and safety. It runs as a lightweight web app inside the displays you already fit. No proprietary helm hardware. One system to learn.

  • OrchestrationGoverns energy production, predicts consumption, enhances security and comfort.
  • PredictiveIntegrates weather & route data to pre-condition the vessel.
  • CommissioningScans every system at handover for shorts & ground faults.

05 Industrial heritage

We aren't enthusiasts with ideas. We're engineers who have solved this problem before — in cars, and on ships.

WOMBAT is built by power-electronics engineers from the automotive EV world — the discipline behind >300 kW fast-charging platforms and safety-critical high-voltage systems — working alongside senior engineers with commercial marine HVDC experience aboard professional vessels. We speak both languages: the automotive rigour that solved distribution and energy management a decade ago, and the marine environment where it now has to land.

Automotive EV

The discipline behind >300 kW fast-charging platforms and safety-critical high-voltage systems. High-resonance magnetics, dense conversion, power-quality assurance.

Commercial marine HVDC

Senior engineers who have run high-voltage DC aboard professional vessels. Salt, vibration and galvanic risk aren't afterthoughts for us — they're where several of us have spent years.

Energy management

Isolated smart-microgrid orchestration, battery thermal management, insulation monitoring. The VEM is not our first energy-management system — it is our first for sailing yachts.
